When "slim and lean" was still successful at rallies
The Alpine-Renault A110 is a perfect example of what can be achieved with diminutive dimensions and low weight on difficult terrain. After all, the "Berlinette", as it was also known, won the Monte Carlo Rally several times and also achieved victories halfway around the world.
The A110 was around 3.85 meters long and 1.47 meters wide (it later received wing extensions). The height was 1.13 meters. The weight was initially around 550 kg and grew to just over 700 kg in the fastest versions.
Just how small the Alpine was can be clearly seen in the wonderful picture that Stewart Adams took yesterday at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The pilot almost seems to fill the car!
