Trade fairs are neither better nor worse after Corona (question of the week)
05/09/2022
After a break of around two years, the major classic car fairs have been able to take place again. Rétromobile Paris, Techno Classica Essen and Retro Classics Stuttgart are already behind us, as is Motorworld Classics Bodensee. Some things have changed, the areas have been reduced, some exhibitors were no longer there, new ones have been added.
After the first fairs, we wanted to know from the Zwischengas readership what they thought of the post-corona fairs and formulated this as the " question of the week" : Have the classic car fairs changed for the better as a result of the long break?
Apparently, this was not a simple question and perhaps a little too simplistic. In any case, one reader made it clear to us: "You can't lump the fairs together. Some trade fair organizers seem to be prepared to make almost any compromise in order to sell space. Whether it's electric cars, new cars or culinary offerings, it doesn't seem to matter. What can we make of a trade fair that presents itself like a butcher's store with a focus on vegan alternative food? Who really wants that? A steak lover would rather look elsewhere..."
But let's turn to the answers anyway, even if the number of readers who took part this time was well below the average of other surveys, which is probably also an indication that it is still too early to judge and that no general answers are possible. The 19.6% of respondents who were unable to choose one of the answers provided should be understood in a similar way.
Nevertheless, 44.9% voted "yes", i.e. saw positive and negative aspects of the trade fairs that took place again. That is actually a good sign!
However, 29 percent missed the large manufacturers' stands and the international dealers, so they clearly found the trade fairs less good than in the past.
Finally, 6.5 percent found the post-coronavirus trade fairs better than before, either because there were more cars to buy again or because the clubs were given significantly more space.
So the final verdict cannot be given and it will probably be the case that some trade fairs have changed with more public success than others. Perhaps we will repeat the question again towards the end of the year.
Here is the graphic analysis of the survey:
We have already asked the next "Question of the Week" , this time on our own behalf. As we are already preparing the next annual magazine, we would like to know from our readers which cover picture from the last seven issues they liked best.
And, of course, the results of previous "Questions of the Week" can still be read in the dedicated topic channel.
