Folding the Beetle convertible roof correctly
The classic VW Beetle Cabriolet with its top down is a common sight at events and trade fairs. Unfortunately, very few owners of these beautiful cars still seem to know how to fold the top down properly.
Simply folding the top backwards is wrong. The large bulge in the fabric on both sides has to be knocked out with a "hand edge blow" (not to be taken literally) and then the roof sinks lower overall, the view through the rear-view mirror is clear and, above all, the expensive, upholstered soft top does not squash between the rods and get damaged. Incidentally, the tarpaulin will also fit much better.
And if you want to have it really good, get a button-on cover with a central zipper to keep only the driver's seat free if necessary. That's how the owners of British roadsters do it and they call it a spray hood.
P.S. The photo shows my VW Beetle convertible of the time with the soft top folded down correctly (the buttoned-on spray hood is also visible). What worked back then should still work in the same way on the later models and the 1303 Cabriolet. But of course I'm happy to be proven wrong ...
