I had the great good fortune to get to know Michael Schumacher in Group C and was able to follow his Formula 1 career, race after race. A wonderful friendship developed and we also spent a few private hours and days together. It was a wonderful time and it hurts my heart what happened on December 29, 2013, on my father's birthday of all days.
Now Netflix is showing a documentary about the racing god Michael Schumacher from today. His name stands for perfection, fighting spirit and passion - Michael Schumacher will forever be one of the best racing drivers of all time. From humble beginnings, he made it to the top of Formula 1 and dominated it for many years - with seven world championship titles and a total of 91 victories. The documentary "Schumacher" traces his path from the Kerpen gravel pit to global superstar.
The long-awaited film documentary, which can be seen exclusively on Netflix from today, September 15, 2021, not only portrays his incomparable career. Thanks to rare interviews, never-before-seen archive footage and the support of his family, the many facets of his multi-layered personality unfold.
In addition to his father and brother Ralf, Schumacher's wife Corinna and his two children Gina and Mick, who now drives in Formula 1 himself, have their say, as do his closest companions and competitors. Among the interviewees are Jean Todt, Bernie Ecclestone, Sebastian Vettel, Mika Häkkinen, Damon Hill, Flavio Briatore, David Coulthard, Willi Weber, Luca di Montezemolo, Piero Ferrari, his manager Sabine Kehm and many others. They tell the story of a passionate fighter who pushed the boundaries of his sport further and further, and of the unconditional team player who always treated his people with esteem and respect.
The date of publication coincides almost exactly with Schumacher's entry into Formula 1 30 years ago.
Sabine Kehm: "Michael Schumacher redefined the profession of racing driver and set new standards. In his quest for perfection, he spared neither himself nor his team and drove them to the greatest successes. He is admired the world over for his leadership qualities. He found the strength and balance for this at home with his family, whom he loves dearly. In order to preserve his private sphere as a source of strength, he has always rigorously and consistently isolated it from his public life. This film tells of both worlds. It is his family's gift to his beloved husband and father."
Benjamin Seikel and Vanessa Nöcker from B|14 FILM GmbH were responsible for the production of "Schumacher". The film was directed by Hanns-Bruno Kammertöns, Vanessa Nöcker and Michael Wech.
