The Lotus Esprit S1 made it after all
09/12/2021
You may remember the orange-colored Lotus Esprit of the first series, which was the 64th car of this type ever sold in Great Britain in 1976, at that time still with a solid-colored body and with today's almost cult green "tartan" interior, as James Bond also found it in his underwater Esprit. We had reported about it.
The car was auctioned on the British platform "Car and Classic".
Bidding started at £10,000 on September 3, 2021, and then soared from £60,000 to £65,000 in the final minutes. But even that was not enough for the consignor; after 39 bids, the limit was barely reached.
The countdown was over, the car was not sold. But one day later, the website reported a successful (subsequent) sale for £ 67,000, the equivalent of around EUR 78,500 or CHF 85,000. A lot of money for a four-cylinder sports car with a plastic body, but probably justified in view of the very complex restoration.
Hopefully it will now be driven and shown a lot in the coming years, it deserves it!
