Have you heard of the Fiat 133?
At classic car meetings and beauty contests, you often come across vehicles that look familiar at first glance, but raise questions on closer inspection.
At the Classic Gala in Schwetzingen, the small car pictured above was on display. Its front is reminiscent of the Fiat 126, but its silhouette looks more like a Fiat 127. The rear-mounted engine can be recognized by the cooling openings.
This car is actually a Seat 133, which is based on the floor assembly of the 850. The four-cylinder engines produced 34 to 43 hp, with the most powerful variant reaching around 135 km/h.
The Seat 133 was mainly built for the local market in Spain, but it was also produced for export as a Fiat 133 with 34 hp. It is unlikely that too many made it to Germany, as Fiat had competitors with a much more modern basic layout in the form of the 127/128 models. For this reason, surviving Fiat 133s are likely to be rarities today. Incidentally, the Fiat/Seat Panda inherited the transitional 133 model in 1980.
