In 1948, Jaguar presented the XK 120 in London, which eclipsed anything that could be bought for similar money at the time. However, the new sports car was not only fast, but also beautiful and surprisingly comfortable, so that nothing stood in the way of its success. A new Jaguar sports car had been rumored for a while when it was presented in London at the end of October 1948. After all, its predecessor, the S.S. 100, had a good reputation and a successor was expected from the Jaguar company. The Automobil Revue greeted the new sports car with due caution: "The new Jaguar sports car is a real sensation, with technical features that appear to be far above the now relatively modest price of 988 pounds sterling, i.e. the same as the saloon. Today, a two-seater with 160 hp and a captivatingly beautiful body can be called advantageous for the sum if it lives up to expectations. The chassis of the sports model is similar to that of the new Jaguar Mark V with torsion bar suspension at the front and a low-slung chassis."
