For the time when you are still driving sportily ...
The early seventies were a time when car manufacturers were still customer-oriented and modest. The GM subsidiary Opel also recognized the needs of its young customers and offered the Opel 1900 GT/J, a sporty entry-level model that lacked a little chrome but not a lot of driving fun. And this GT/J cost just DM 10,990, whereas elsewhere you could only get home cooking and not such a snazzy coupé with spinning eyes. No wonder Opel said in its advertising: "This sports car is different in many ways. Not just the price!"
And underneath the advertisement it said: "Opel GT/J. For the time when you still drive sporty." Yes, young people drove sports cars back then! Or at least they wanted to.
And the slightly more expensive standard model Opel GT 1900 was also mentioned and described without fuss as "The same performance with a touch of luxury". That sounds really modest, doesn't it?
For the sake of completeness, here is the entire advertising page, which is of course also available in high resolution in the Zwischengas image archive .
