A car from extraterrestrials?
03/13/2021
The car is called "ETV", which stands for "Extra Terrestrial Vehicle". However, the rather uniquely shaped vehicle has little to do with green men or ET, as it was created in the USA by Mike Vetter in Florida. Vetter runs a tuning and customizer store there and from time to time feels like doing something completely crazy instead of cosmetic surgery on everyday cars. And so the idea of building the ETV was born.
And you could also buy it, around USD 95,000 was enough to acquire such a car. And there are probably few vehicles that attract more attention.
Underneath the creative shell, however, is a rather mundane base in the form of a Chevrolet Aveo, also known as the Daewoo Kalos. At least from the outside, you can't see any more of it, and when the car is stationary, you can't hear anything of the relatively staid four-cylinder engine in the front of the ETV.
The car actually looks as if it has just stepped out of a science fiction movie, but in fact it is already around 10 years old. Theoretically, the extraterrestrial vehicle could even be registered, but this would probably require the creativity of the American authorities.
In the UK, where the car pictured will be auctioned at Bonhams on March 20, 2021 ( estimated price £8,000 to £12,000), the car was only in a museum, which is why the air suspension no longer works, nor do the installed video cameras. And the maintenance of this vehicle is likely to put even experienced mechanics out of their depth, as it is almost impossible to get at the engine, for example.
Actually, an electric base (and a corresponding soundscape with amplified future sounds) would have been the better solution for this ground UFO, but this was probably not yet on the agenda at the time.
If this is all too futuristic for you, you could also buy a Batmobile (a replica based on a 1965 Ford) for £20,000 to £30,000 at the same auction ....
In any case, this Batmobile doesn't look much more earthly than the ETV.
