Forgotten movie cars - Sunbeam Alpine
02/05/2020
The movie was called "To Catch a Thief" or "Over the Rooftops of Nice" and it was an entertaining crime comedy starring the two movie stars Cary Grant and Grace Kelly.
That blonde dream girl drove the blue Sunbeam Alpine Mk 1 around the bends so fast that Cary Grant almost lost his cool.
The model was built from 1953 to 1955 in 1582 examples, all with a hand-built body by Thrupp & Maberly. It was an elegant convertible with a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that produced around 100 hp.
However, fewer people remember the car than the actress Grace Kelly, who steered the Sunbeam with her fingertips through the hairpin bends above Nice in Alfred Hitchcock's 1955 film (probably in front of a screen).
