Stamps for car-loving collectors
01/10/2020
It is only natural that the Principality of Monaco should issue stamps commemorating legendary racing cars, as one of the most famous Formula 1 races takes place there.
These stamps were issued in Monaco in 1967.
These stamps were issued in Monaco in 1961.
But it is surprising that other stamps with motifs of racing cars and drivers come from a completely different corner of the world, namely Ajman and Umm Al Qiwain in the United Arab Emirates.
Stamps from Ajman with vehicles from the " Herkomer Konkurrenz" rally, a long-distance rally that first took place in 1905. At that time the vehicles were new, today they are over 100 years old, and the rally is being held again with these pre-war machines, first under different names, and since 1997 on the initiative of Mr. Ulf von Malberg every two years with the original name. According to Mr. von Malberg, the stamps were produced by Hermann Walter Sieger, who was very interested in classic cars and technical motifs. We were unable to find out whether Mr. Sieger took part in any of the rallies.
Formula 1 and CanAm heroes were chosen as stamp motifs
The EmirAt Umm Al Qiwain is also enthusiastic about Formula 1.
These motifs make you want to write a letter again...
These stamps are not for sale, but the owner may be interested in exchanging them for Aston Martin stamps. If you are interested, please contact the editors of Zwischengas.
