With the Maserati A6G 2000/54, the Italian racing and sports car manufacturer from Modena also received recognition from sports car drivers. Beautiful bodywork and an engine with around 125 hp provided the basis for this. Pietro Frua bodyworked ten of these A6G/54s with spider bodies. Number 1 is being auctioned by Bonhams in Quail Lodge. On August 18, 2017, the first of the ten Maserati A6G/54 Spiders built by Pietro Frua will be auctioned off at Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction. It could become the most expensive vehicle ever sold by the famous coachbuilder. Maserati took a long time to get into the production of production sports cars as well as racing cars. The first model, the 1500 Gran Sport (Tipo A6, where A stands for the company co-founder Alfieri and 6 for the number of cylinders), built from 1946 to 1950, proved to be too weak with its 65 hp 1.5-liter engine and only 61 units were built with a Pinin Farina Coupé body - with the exception of one Zagato Coupé.
