About old movies and old cars - from the perspective of young people
08/07/2017
When young people watch old films today, they are as unfamiliar to them as old cars. Thirty-year-old and older films usually differ from films made today in terms of a slower narrative pace, different editing techniques (longer scenes) and the absence of CGI (computer-generated images) as well as modern sound technology and multi-channel sound.
It's similar with the old car. As we know, there are no computers, everything has to be done by hand, the general pace, but also the speed at which gears are changed, for example, is slower. And therefore unfamiliar, like the old movie.
I noticed all of this recently when I watched the movie "The Godfather" by Francis Ford Coppola with Marlon Brando and a very young Al Pacino. I should also mention that a FiatBalilla , an Alfa Romeo6C 2500 Freccia d'Oro (pictured above) and a whole series of classic Americans also appeared in the movie.
The filmmakers made a real effort to put together an authentic selection of cars. But that's certainly not the only reason to watch this Oscar-winning film again, at least when the weather doesn't motivate you to take an old car out for a drive ...
