The super bubbles from Alfa Romeo, Messerschmitt and Peel
08/01/2017
The British call them "bubble cars". Normally they mean cabin scooters, cars that look a bit like inflated balloons or bubbles.
The Peel Trident ( pictured above) is the latest example to really make this term clear, as this car had a Plexiglas dome. However, the Messerschmitt KR200 already had such a roof construction.
But it was not only the small cabin scooters that were fitted with a transparent roof. The Alfa Romeo 6C 3000 Superflow by Pininfarina was also fitted with a transparent roof attachment and could easily have passed as a "bubble car".
And there were probably a few more of these Plexiglas roof cars, but the interiors heated up enormously in the sun and this design was therefore not really practical in hot weather. If you want to look good, you have to suffer from time to time.
Anyone interested in one or other of these cars can read the corresponding report.
