Jim Clark drives the Ford Corsair
08/10/2017
He is one of the greatest motorsport legends, Jim Clark. He drove to many victories for Lotus, and his death as a racing driver was tragic.
Jim Clark's work in a Ford advertising film to promote the Ford Corsair was probably rather unusual.
In the style of a car test, Clark drove around a test track in the eight-minute film, including a shaking track, after he had previously tested the car in a stationary position.
Among other things, he lifted the well-positioned pedals, which allowed him to brake and accelerate at the same time.
The Corsair, with its steering wheel gearshift and obviously quite comfortable suspension, didn't look very sporty, but Clark seemed to like the car.
He also provided the off-speaker (in English) for the video and explained in true British style as he loaded three people into the back seat: "After all, the proof is in the pudding".
It's worth watching this video, which is now over 50 years old, a wonderful contemporary document.
