The big comeback of the little gem
01/21/2016
After a long and intensive "ERA era" and a somewhat shorter "Cortina era", a new period in the "Mini era" begins this spring for the well-known photographer and "historic racing driver" Jost Wildbolz.
After the monoposto and the classic racing touring car, he is now moving on to the small but no less competitive Mini Cooper S, a car that guarantees plenty of driving fun and has a track record like few others.
Whether on the repetitive circuit, the open-top mountain or even in the middle of the traffic chaos of the city of Zurich to post Gipfeli - the Mini always scores points. The English subcompact is a car that is very much back in fashion these days thanks to its size. Every parking space is big enough. Thanks to the large and slim door, getting in and out of the car is always easy, wherever you are. It easily manages the required highway speed of 120 km/h.
When it finally comes to a few bends, it is still one of the fastest, thanks to its low power-to-weight ratio and sensational road holding, which can only be compared to a go-kart. With its front engine and front-wheel drive, it also provides good traction on snow, as it proved several times in the Monte Carlo Rally (winner in 1964, 1965and 1967) .
Visually, it is and remains a small, well-polished jewel. The only disadvantage of this tiny car is that it is extremely difficult to find in a crowded parking garage next to all the giants!
"zwischengas" was allowed to accompany Jost during his vehicle check at Nick's Garage in Zufikon, where the boss of the house is affectionately known as "MiniNick". The total restoration of the little one is making great progress every day and his freshly overhauled heart will soon start beating again. Jost is really looking forward to the first ride ...
