With real muscles - the unknown Ford Sierra XR8
Of course, there was the Ford Sierra XR4i and the RS 500 Cosworth in this country, but a veritable "muscle car" based on the Sierra with a really large displacement (beyond 2.8 liters) did not really exist.
Different countries, different customs. Between 1984 and 1988, a Ford Sierra with an eight-cylinder, five-liter engine was built in South Africa as a basic model for racing. The South Africans had to put 200 units on the road for this, and even managed to produce 250 cars.
With the engine from the Ford Mustang, a Borg Warner T5 transmission and racing brakes, the car was good for 225 km/h, which was due to the five-liter's modest output of around 209 hp. Even with hobby tuning, you could get a lot more out of it.
Visually, the car had additional cooling openings. Naturally, the cars were right-hand drive and intended for the local market. However, one example from 1985 has apparently made it to the UK and will now go under the hammer at the "Classic Car Auctions" auction in Leamington Spa on March 19, 2016.
The estimated price is a comparatively modest 8,000 to 10,000 British pounds (around CHF 12,000 to 15,000, 11,000 to 14,000 euros). Given the rarity of the car and the clearly audible V8 hum, this would be worth considering.
