A circle closes ... or not

It's almost a break with tradition. For as long as I can remember, Volkswagens have been sold at Utoquai in Zurich, a truly first-class address located almost directly on the lake.
But now it's over. "VW is moving", reads the sign on the showroom window, and you can now view your new Volkswagen outside Zurich in Dübendorf. Where once the Beetle, 411, Karmann-Ghia and later the Golf, Passat and Phaeton were sold, there is now a yawning void.
And what will follow? It is not yet clear, perhaps another Group brand will follow Volkswagen or Audi, still available in the left-hand section of the sales premises, will take over the entire area?
The four rings actually have a much longer history at the former AMAG headquarters on Utoquai in Zurich, as Volkswagen was only added in 1948 and Porsche was imported from 1951.
Even before the Second World War, however, the four rings were emblazoned on the façade of the building on Utoquai. At that time, however, the four rings stood for Auto Union, which also included the brands DKW, Wanderer and Horch. In addition, Mercury and Lincoln were also imported and sold by importer AMAG at the time.
From this point of view, the circle would simply be closed if the four rings were to shine on all shop windows again. But let's wait and see.
Only one hope is unlikely to come true - old cars, e.g. classic Wanderer or Lincoln, will probably not be sold at Utoquai in the future either ....
