When we stumbled across this picture, we had to smile. At the 1972 Paris Motor Show, Bosch proudly demonstrated with a simplified foam model of a Mercedes Benz SL how important electrical and electronic parts had become in automobile construction.
The spark plugs, alternator, starter motor, cooling fan, lamps, ignition coil and battery, as well as windshield wipers, horn and a few other small parts are clearly visible. The whole thing is pretty straightforward, especially when you compare it with the myriad of electric motors and microchips that can be found in a modern vehicle today, connected via a bus system and kilometers of wiring harnesses.
