Do yellow cars live longer, or not?
04/10/2013
I recently read in a newspaper about the problem of extensive data analysis. As we all know, computers can now be used to evaluate millions of pieces of detailed information in a very short space of time. However, according to the author of the article, statistical analyses are often meaningless. And as evidence, he mentioned an analysis that showed that yellow cars live longer. Which obviously made no sense from the point of view of the author and the statisticians.
But, I ask myself, could it not be a correct finding after all?
Yellow is a striking color. Even 30 and 40 years ago, yellow was considered a safety color and tests were even carried out with a bright yellow Mercedes-Benz 280 SL .
In addition, the color yellow was probably primarily ordered by sports car drivers, and these indeed often reach a higher age and escape scrapping/disposal more often than sedan variants.
And so it could actually be that yellow cars are getting older.
