The Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Zagato by Karl Foitek
04/08/2013
There was something very special to see at the Foitek Automobile AG Open Days last weekend, namely the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Zagato in which Karl Foitek competed in a number of races at the beginning of the 1960s.
The then technical director of Alfa Romeo once brought the car, which was built in 1960, to Zurich himself for a symbolic price as a token of gratitude for the Swiss championship title that Foitek had won with the Giulietta Sprint Veloce the previous year.
Foitek then went on to win at the Nürburgring, in Clermont-Ferrat and in Innsbruck with the 1,040 kg, 140 hp Alfa Romeo.
A year later, Edwin Frey won the Mitholz-Kandersteg and Klosters-Davos hill climb races in the Zagato.
From 1978 onwards, the car was used in historic racing events, successfully achieving many top places, including first place at the Targa Florio in 1986.
The car has belonged to its first owner again since November 2012 and is a feast for the eyes!
