Pictures from car shows of days gone by
02/19/2012
We've said it before, we like the pictures of past motor shows. Not because the pictures are of a particularly high photographic quality or because the vehicles are particularly creatively positioned, but because these pictures are important historical evidence of earlier car models. And because they have their own charm.
That's why we refrain from editing them. As far as possible, we leave them uncropped and leave the apparent trivialities where and how they were. After all, it is often the objects in the background that might help someone looking for information.
Most of the pictures were taken with a lens with a relatively wide angle of view. This means that vehicles can often be seen that received little attention at the time but may be of interest today.
And it is easy to identify the vehicle brands in the background together with the hall plan.
We would love to publish pictures of every single vehicle that was exhibited at the 1962 Geneva Motor Show, for example. Unfortunately, however, we do not have all the photographs taken at these exhibitions. Many photos have unfortunately been lost, destroyed or are no longer accessible. If our readers have any usable images, we would like to know about them .
We see our documentation of past motor shows as living reports. If we find or receive more pictures, we add them to the articles. In this way, they become more and more complete and detailed.
Last year we documented the Geneva Motor Shows of the years 1951/1961/1971/1981 , this year we are summarizing 1952/ 1962/1972/1982 . In eight years' time (or even earlier) the collection will be complete and hopefully enriched by many subsequently found pictures.
