World record Porsche 911 R resurfaced!
The Porsche 911 R, chassis number 001R, the world record car of Siffert, Steinemann, Spörry and Vögele, still exists exactly as it left the Autodromo di Monza in 1967. The car was recognized and photographed by an Zwischengas reader in Carmel, California last October on the occasion of the "Porsche Race Car Classic" in Laguna Seca.
It's wonderful to see that the car still wears the "suit" of the former world record. It doesn't matter that it is now based in the USA, because the most important thing is to know that it is in good hands and safe and sound. The picture taken in 1967 shows how little it has changed.
The detailed article on the BP world record from 1967 can of course be found on Zwischengas, including the program and photos.
