Lancia Gamma Olgiata by Pininfarina - too late to save the Gamma
Sometimes not even close-to-production designer concepts made it to series production, even though they would have had a real chance. This was also the case with the Lancia Gamma Olgiata, which Pininfarina created in 1982 to give the floundering Gamma series a new lease of life.
What was created and realized on the drawing board is both coherent and practical. Pininfarina wanted to create a kind of upper-class HPE (see also Lancia HPE), and the result is convincing all round.
But the Olgiata came too late. It was shown at motor shows in 1983, but by then the end of the Gamma series with the 2.5-liter engine was already sealed. What a pity!
For fans, the prototype can also be seen in high resolution, among others in the company of the other Gamma concept cars Scala (1980) and Spider (1978).
