With the Alfa Romeo Giulia GT from Frankfurt to Milan
10/10/2011
The marketing people at Alfa Romeo took a trip from the German metropolis to the northern Italian city of Milan (Milano) as the theme for their 1966 sales brochure. "A trip with two long guys and luggage ..." was the headline and the crew and accessories were shown on the cover.
The different types of roads on the journey to Milan were also made the subject of the brochure, for example the highway with top speeds of up to 180 km/h. And at 145 km/h you still have half the power in reserve!
On another page, you talked about how the five-speed gearbox makes fun of the St. Gotthard and described the Giulia's great elasticity and power. The Gotthard tunnel did not yet exist at that time; the vehicles had to drive over the pass road and the famous Tremola.
Of course, the focus was on long-distance suitability: "After a few hours of driving, you realize how comfortable the Giulia GT is". But safety (disc brakes) and maneuverability (driving in Italian city traffic) were also discussed. Entertaining and informative at the same time!
We will be publishing a report on the Giulia GT and its successor, the GTV, in the next few weeks.
