Bugatti round dance in the rain at Michaelskreuz
10/09/2011
This year, we have already experienced a lot of capricious weather and long periods of good and bad weather. While some events (e.g. Arosa ClassicCar, Gaisbergrennen, Altbüron, etc.) benefited from the best conditions, others (AVD OGP, Solitude, etc.) at least suffered from the vagaries of the weather. This was also the case yesterday for the memorial ride for the Michaelskreuzrennen in Root, Lucerne.
And that was a shame, because where else can you find such a unique field of Bugatti racing and sports cars?
Over ten of them were registered, most of which tackled the first race in the rain.
There was something unique to marvel at: former works racing cars, Paris exhibition cars, Mille Miglia participants, Targa Florio competitors, etc.
There were mainly Type 35 vehicles in all variants, but the rarer Type 37, Type 51, Type 57 and Type 59 were also registered.
Unfortunately, with some laudable exceptions, the gentlemen drivers preferred to take it easy on their vehicles in the afternoon due to the miserable weather conditions, which deprived the audience of the pleasure of the supercharged eight-cylinder sounds.
So let's hope that today, Sunday, the weather is better and the Bugatti owners are more ready for action! And that the public will flock in greater numbers to marvel at this unique selection of rare gems from the famous Ettore Bugatti.
