The Renault R4 is one of the most successful cars ever built. Around 8 million vehicles are said to have been built over a span of 31 years. Although this is still some way behind the VW Beetle, the car turned out to be a real long runner.
In addition to its good use of space and robust nature, Renault's various marketing campaigns also contributed to its success. As early as the 1961 presentation, 200 white R4s drove past the Eiffel Tower and many special models, such as the Parisienne model shown here in a contemporary photograph, boosted sales. The photo shown here beautifully sums up the Parisian feeling .
