1983 startete Ford die Entwicklung des RS 200, der die Gruppe-B-Rallye-Konkurrenz von Peugeot, MG und Audi das Fürchten lehren sollte. Kompromisslos konstruiert und deutlich sechsstellig angeboten, hatte es der schnelle Ford beim Strassenprivatfahrer nicht leicht, trotz euphorischer Presseberichte und der Seriosität eines Grossserienherstellers im Hintergrund. Auch im Rallye-Sport konnte der Wagen nicht brillieren, er kam zu spät und nur kurz vor dem Ende der Gruppe B. 30 Jahre später aber gilt der RS 200 als einer der faszinierendsten Zeitzeugen jener Ära.
