Rattling from behind
Yes, well, the cell phone photo here will certainly not win a prize due to the lack of reasonable image composition and sharpness. But the experience was great, and I quickly held my phone up to the rear-view mirror as a reminder.
So I was driving towards Rapperswil last Saturday when I had to stop at a set of traffic lights. My (modern) car naturally used the standstill to stop the engine, but in the back there was a melodic rattling sound that I would have initially attributed to a Porsche 911 GT3 or something similar. In the rear-view mirror, however, I only saw a delivery van. When it swung off and I looked behind me again, I was amazed.
There was a Bugatti Type 35 defying the problems of the traffic jam and the falling raindrops. I almost couldn't take my eyes off it. To describe the sound as rattling is of course to miss the tonal experience that this Grand Prix Bugatti offered.
I would have loved to swap places with the driver, even though the pre-war racing car was clearly not entirely comfortable in the traffic jam. On the other hand, it gave the people on the road a lot of pleasure, because when do you ever see (and hear) a Bugatti Type 35 in the wild?
