A BMW from the future?

Sometimes it is perhaps a good thing that not all cars of the future make it into series production. In the 1960s, Automobil Revue worked with the Swiss designer Josef Albisser. From time to time, Albisser was able to show how he envisioned the automotive future. He was given "carte blanche" for the 1970 catalog number. Albisser was commissioned to create a series of four designs that were to embody his typical signature, from a modified series coupé to sporty cars and the utility car of tomorrow.
The (BMW) Quanta (pictured above) was an ultra-fast racing coupé with two seats and a transverse mid-mounted engine. For the turbocharged two-liter engine, 300 hp was "planned", which would have been enough for 300 km/h.
The Ischia GT was designed to be much closer to series production. Four comfortable seats and a sufficiently large trunk were planned for the front-engined coupé with engines of 1.5 to 3 liters displacement and rear-wheel drive. The design was actually somewhere between the Ford Mustang and the Capri.
While the Ischia might still be appealing today, the Quanta looked rather bulky and would probably not have aged well.
There were two more designs to look at in the 1970 AR catalog .
