Do you really want to overwrite this name?
Mercedes-Benz, Alfa Romeo, Austin-Healey, Facel Vega - double names are always written one after the other on cars. Always? No. 120 years ago, Pope-Hartford decided to put the name parts on the radiator one on top of the other instead of one behind the other: one in strict grotesque script, the other in bold cursive script. No one could read it, but it looked artistic - and saved space to boot.
However, this unique selling point did not ensure long-term success. Production in Hartford, Connecticut, ended after just ten years. Incidentally, the 1911 Pope-Hartford Model W Five-Passenger Touring shown here was sold a few days ago for 175,000 dollars . Let someone else say that nobody is interested in cars from the brass era anymore...
