Hardly any well-known cars from Turkey
A few years ago, we heard about a new passenger car from Turkey. The new electric car was called the Togg and it was a bit surprising that hardly anyone knew anything about the Turkish car industry. This is also due to the fact that there are hardly any cars from there that have made it to us.
These include vehicles from the Turkish car manufacturer Anadol. With the help of Reliant, various saloons and coupés were produced.
One of these was the Anadol A1, built from 1966 to 1975, followed by the A2. What was special about it was the plastic bodywork, which was the first time a four-door saloon was available. The engines used were well-behaved standard Ford units (e.g. Kent).
1981 saw the introduction of the A8 (pictured above), like the A2 a four-door saloon for five people. The styling was based on the safety cars of the seventies, but for cost reasons many components had to be taken over from the predecessors, which is why the result did not really look harmonious.
At least there was now a little more engine power to fall back on, the four-cylinder engine came from Ford and produced 78 hp from 1593 cm3.
With only just over 1000 units produced, the A8, sold as the Anadol 16 and Anadol 16 SL, remained an exotic model and production was discontinued in 1984. At the end of 1985, the Anadol brand also came to an end .
