When rarities meet - Ogle SX 1000 at Knebworth Park
In 1962 and 1963, just 66 Ogle SX1000s were produced on a Mini basis. The likelihood of coming across one of these cars is correspondingly low. When seven of these cars came together at Knebworth Park during the Classic Car Show on August 25 and 26, 2024, it was probably a historically very rare event.
The Ogle group attracted a lot of attention and many visitors to the meeting had to confess that they had never seen one of these cars before, let alone a whole group of them. The cars present ranged from experimental prototypes to the penultimate car built, from a highly original car with only two family owners to a car restored to the latest standards with multipoint injection and air conditioning.
As the owner of the only car sold new on the European continent, I organized the meeting from the Netherlands because I thought it was a good opportunity to meet fellow brand owners. All the other six cars were from the UK and some of them had traveled hundreds of miles to get to Knebworth.
The venue was also chosen because it is close to Letchworth Garden City, where the cars were originally manufactured. In fact, Ogle is still in business today, supplying models and prototypes to the automotive and aerospace industries. Five of the seven Ogle owners took a short tour of the factory.
