When you were still supposed to carry a DM 30 camera in the glove compartment
Under the sensational title "This accident photo brought 763 marks because the Capri driver had a camera with him for 30 marks", the ADAC recommended in 1974 to always have a (cheap) camera with you when traveling by car.
In fact, it had been possible to prove the guilty party, or rather their false statement, with the recorded image of the collision.
ADAC Motorwelt then recommended a selection of cameras, namely Agfa Autostar X-126, Balda 144-X, Revuematic 111-X, Afgamatic 50, Balda 824-X, Brillant 600-X, Kodak Instamatic 56-X, Exclusiv Pocket 110, Kodak Instamatic 92 or Revue Pocket 202.
However, DM 30 was only enough to buy two of these cameras. But the names of the cameras alone evoke nostalgic memories today. I, for one, remember taking photos with several of these cheap cameras.
In the modern age, of course, this is all a thing of the past; after all, almost everyone carries a cell phone with them and most modern smartphones leave the entire range of cheap cameras of the time far behind in terms of image quality ...
