Key deflation
06/18/2021
If you buy a new car today, you hardly ever get a "real" key, but at most one and a magic "box" for various functions, maybe even with a built-in mini display.
Of course, things were different in the past and it was not at all uncommon to receive not just one key, but several keys in different versions. In fact, four different keys were not an absolute exception. The keys could differ in shape and size. They opened the doors, the trunk, the fuel filler cap, the glove compartment and, of course, one was responsible for switching on the ignition and operating the starter. Another may have served as a "hotel key" with reduced "functionality".
Today, this seems almost strange and anyone who gets into an unfamiliar car and has been given a handful of keys for the journey will first try out the different key variants in the individual locks until the right fit is found. But there is also something wonderfully nostalgic and tactile about this. It gets you in the mood for the classic right away ...
P.S. On the Alfa Romeo GTV6 from the 1980s, there are three keys, the functionality of which you can read about in the manual ...
