Who knows more about the Datwyler Porsche?
In 1960, a sporty Porsche derivative was commissioned in Zurich. The body was removed from a brand new Porsche 356 and a tight-fitting plastic skin was applied. The aim was to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but this did not happen. Otto Dätwyler, also known as "Dodi", was responsible for the conversion. He was a top-class Porsche specialist, knew every spare part number by heart and is said to have been able to blindly dismantle and reassemble a Porsche gearbox.
Unfortunately, little is known about the history of the sports car, which was built in 1960. For example, it would be interesting to know who was responsible for the design of the body, how the plastic mold was created and what happened to the car in the early years.
If there are any of our readers who remember the creation of this sports car, we would be very happy to receive any relevant information, as we are currently researching a history of this interesting car. Incidentally, a second 911-based racing car was later built by Dätwyler, although its styling was based more on the 904 and therefore differed significantly from the first model.
