The history of the Zwischengas newsletter
On November 23, 2010, we sent out the first message to a few users who had been interested in zwischengas.com in advance. It was the start of the beta phase. A few days later, on November 30, 2010, the first actual newsletter went out to readers. There were perhaps 80 or 100 of them. The "update" was short, two pictures had to be enough.
Eleven weeks later, we migrated to a scalable newsletter solution and sent out the 12th "News from Zwischengas" newsletter for the first time with the support of a professional service provider.
Things were already looking better on February 8, 2011.
On October 16, 2012, we were able to celebrate our 100th newsletter without any fuss. The topics at the time included: Maserati Indy. Alfa Romeo Duetto, Wankel engine, Ford Consul 315, Lugano Rally, two unsuccessful auctions.
But another anniversary was more important to us. Because on August 27, 2013, we were able to announce that zwischengas.com had now been around for 1000 days. And this was of course communicated with an anniversary newsletter. Among other things, you could read about: Fiat-Abarth 1000 Bialbero, 1000 km Monza 1983, Anti-Beetle, AU 1000, RAID Suisse-Paris, BCM Mollis, Pebble Beach , Zurich Classic Car Award, RM Monterey, Gooding Pebble Beach, preview of IAA 2013.
On September 16, 2014, the 200th newsletter was sent to the now significantly increased number of Zwischengas readers. Of course, the anniversary number was also reflected in the content: Number 200, Arosa ClassicCar, RM London, Chantilly Concours, Goodwood Revival, DolderClassics, Mercedes-Benz 200, GP Montreux, Lancia Aurelia pf 200, Ercole Spada (book), Bonhams Goodwood Revivval, quiz interior door panels.
The 300th newsletter was then sent out on August 16, 2016, with matching articles: Mercedes-Benz 300 S, BMW Isetta 300, car connoisseur quiz '300', Jaguar XJ-220, Porsche doctor Georg Huber, AvD OGP, preview Motorworld Classics Berlin.
And around two years ago, on July 17, 2018, the 400th newsletter was sent to around 60,000 readers. Once again, some of the articles focused on the anniversary: The 400th Formula 1 Grand Prix, Ferrari 400i, Lamborghini 400 GT, number '400', Goodwood Festival of Speed, Bonhams GFOS, Le Mans Classic, TCS Youngtimer Meeting, Legends of Brands Hatch, Stella Alpina Storico, Saurer 1897-1920, Alfa 1900 book, Toyota Supra coming back, BCCM.
And now, on June 16, 2020, the 500th newsletter will be sent out. Of course, interesting reports, blogs and articles have also been compiled for this. Also with reference to the number "500". And we have done the math. If we were to print a traditional magazine instead of the newsletter and online publication, it would run to around 100 pages with the newsletter articles alone. Week after week!
This means that we are and will remain quite unique in the classic car and youngtimer environment. Currently, almost 75,000 classic car enthusiasts receive our weekly newsletter. And, while we're on the subject of figures, it might be interesting to know ...
... that we celebrated our ten millionth visit on March 5, 2019.
... that we welcomed our ten millionth user/reader on November 20, 2019.
... that we delivered our one hundred millionth page on January 30, 2020.
Yes, a lot has happened. However, the next big anniversary is not far away either, as we will be ten years old at the end of the year. This will be a real celebration!
By the way, if you'd like to look back at Zwischengas in the past, you can of course do so at any time using the newsletter archive .
