There was also this - Fiat 850 Sport Spider with electric drive

At the International Motor Show in New York on April 7, 1973, a car was shown that at first glance probably looked like a normal Fiat 850 Sport Spider to most onlookers.
However, the Spider had been thoroughly modified. The four-cylinder engine and tank had been removed and replaced by three electric motors. 18 batteries provided the power for a top speed of almost 90 km/h and a range of 50 to 70 kilometers.
The car was built by the Mesh Corporation and they certainly had big plans. But it probably remained a pre-production model of the almost 1300 kg sports car, despite the great advantages that the manufacturer announced in its press release. For example, it was emphasized that no energy would be wasted at red lights and that the electric Spider was the perfect second car.
Why did the Americans choose the Fiat Spider as the basis for their conversion? Appearance and affordability certainly played a role.
Another derivative of the Fiat 850 Spider was the Bertone Racer , about which we published an article yesterday.
