What do these cars have in common?

No, we don't want to start a rumor that Peugeot or the PSA Group recently wanted to take over Honda. Especially as the Honda on the left is a Triumph Acclaim from 1983. It was based on the Honda Ballade and was the first Japanese car to be largely manufactured in England with a diesel engine.
This was also the case with the Peugeot models pictured, which were assembled at the Ryton plant as the 309, 306, 405 and 206. This is probably a little-known fact in this country, but many thousands of Peugeot models were manufactured for the British market in England, not far from Coventy, the "Motor City" of Great Britain, i.e. the "Detroit" of England.
This was once the center of the British car industry, which was one of the largest in the world and was the first to pick itself up and launch new products on the market, particularly after the Second World War.
Many famous cars were built around Coventry, Jaguar of course, but also Land Rover a little further away, which of course is still known today. However, many of the brands - Singer, Rover, Alvis and Lea Francis - have disappeared and been forgotten. In the seventies, almost the entire car industry in Great Britain went down the drain.
A really exciting story, isn't it? And always worth a visit to the Coventry Transport Museum. We'll report on our visit in a few weeks' time.
