Surprise in Nuremberg - 2 x VW SP2
12/10/2017
The Volkswagen SP2 is one of the exotic cars in this country, and the likelihood of coming across one on the road is close to zero. After all, only 670 of the approximately 10,000 to 11,000 examples were exported, and according to Wikipedia, only one was even sent to Europe at the time.
Well, this has now changed somewhat, because in addition to the car in the Volkswagen Museum, there are also some in private ownership. The vehicles were built in Brazil between 1972 and 1976, the technology came from the VW Variant, the rear engine with a displacement of 1.7 liters developed 65 hp. This meant that the SP2 could not quite live up to its sporty appearance. Unlike many of its competitors, the SP2 had a sheet steel body.
So if you ever see one of these extremely rare coupés in this country, it is certainly a stroke of luck.
At Retro Classics Bavaria in Nuremberg, which is still open until the evening of December 10, 2017, there are two of these beautifully shaped sports cars on display: a red one from 1976, which is on offer for EUR 29,900 (as in Cologne) , and an early orange example (pictured above) in very good condition from 1972. With just 49,000 kilometers on the clock, this car (in Classic Data condition 1), which is on offer from the dealer for EUR 52,800, is a little gem.
Our report on the exhibition in Nuremberg will follow shortly.
