When was the last time you saw a new MG?
The traditional British brand MG ( Morris Garage) is synonymous with practical and simple sports cars, thousands of which were sold enthusiastically between the 1950s and 1970s.
Almost everyone can still remember the MGB and probably admired it as a new car.
But the history of MG did not end with the MGB, even though it was a turning point.
The brand logo had already been applied to saloons earlier and the Austin Metro also drove around as an MG and was even used in rallying.
This brings us back to the eighties, so new MGs were still being produced.
In the nineties, the MG brand was revived with a genuine sports car, the MG F, which was sold quite successfully. The RV8, a reminiscence of the MG B V8, was produced in small numbers.
In the new millennium, Rover products were again given the MG octagon under the MG Rover name, although little of this was noticed in this country.
Then it was over, but not forever. The brand rights were acquired by the Chinese Nanjing Automobile Group in 2005 for £53 million and the first models were launched in 2011. A respectable range of cars has been created to date. However, they are mainly sold in China and also reach the British market via MG Motor, based in Longbridge/Birmingham.
In fact, MG Motor is the largest importer of Chinese cars in the UK. However, the cars are built exclusively in the Far East, but they are even back in racing, winning the British Touring Car Championship in 2014.
