BMW M meets Alpina - a day in paradise
09/19/2017
Perhaps even the test drivers of the biggest car magazines dreamed of this! Driving the best models from Motorsport GmbH and Alpina in one day. And we were given the opportunity! We switched from the BMW M3 Cecotto to the Alpina-BMW B9 3.5, then to the BMW M635 CSi and finally to the Alpina Coupé B7 Turbo. They were all built in the space of just five years, between 1984 and 1989.
That was a time when the spread of the speedometer was always the same from 0 to 300 km/h, when interior mirrors did not yet dim automatically, when the lights were still produced with halogen bulbs, when you still shifted gears by hand in a sporty car, when you still braked yourself, even if cruise control was on board. It was also the time when cars were still allowed to be hard-drinking and fuel consumption of 10 to 20 liters was interpreted as corresponding to the mileage. And the car still came with proper tools and a full-size spare wheel.
In any case, we felt transported back in time and enjoyed the turbo boost of the Alpina B7 (E24), the go-kart-like handling of the M3 E30, the surprisingly velvety ride of the M635 CSI and the pleasing handling of the E28 with Alpina B9 3.5 refinements.
Attention BMW M and Alpina fans! The four sports cars are expected to be auctioned off by the Oldtimer Gallery in Toffen on October 14, 2017.
Of course, we will be writing a lot more about the cars, so that we can relive the incomparable day ourselves. And then we will also publish the exciting pictures by Daniel Reinhard!
