A classic pearl in the editorial office - BMW Z3 2.8 Coupé
It is the new arrival on our editorial team, the BMW Z3 2.8 coupé, popularly known as the "sneaker". Even 20 years ago, when it was presented, there was a debate as to whether this estate coupé was ugly or extravagantly elegant.
In the meantime, the basic shape has been ennobled in terms of design by the Ferrari FF at the latest.
The rear of the estate was practical right from the start. Not that you can fit an incredible amount into the trunk, but you can certainly load it comfortably.
Otherwise, after a drive in the almost 20-year-old coupé, you wonder exactly where all the progress in automotive engineering has gone to date. After all, the BMW hardly seems to be any worse than its modern descendants.
The in-line six-cylinder engine is a cream puff anyway. It combines all the virtues of this type of engine and the 192 hp are easily enough to accelerate the sports car, which weighs just 1.3 tons, at breakneck speed. And the sound? You'll dream of that in the electric age!
We awarded the Z3 Coupé the classic car pearl of the future back in 2014, so now it's time to see if it still stands the test of time today. It has already shown a few electronic ailments, let's hope they don't become serious problems. We've almost got used to the red leather in the interior. The Z3 deserves a bit of color.
Of course, we will soon be devoting a full-blown report to the pretty coupé and we will also report on our experiences with the "Shooting Break" from time to time.
