Soon there were long delivery times as proof that the classic layout - engine at the front, drive at the rear - was the right one. But the VW Golf GTI was already waiting in the wings. The oil crisis was over and drivers were once again looking for performance. In 1975, Ford presented the RS 2000 with a new front-end design. Long delivery times proved that they were on the right track. At the beginning of 1968, the Ford Escort with its characteristic radiator grille reminiscent of a dog's bone was first seen by members of the press at the secret test center in northeast London. There were good reasons for presenting the car in the UK, as the new car basically replaced the Ford Anglia at the time, and it also received many technical components from the British Ford inventory.
