The oil crisis had been overcome and car drivers were once again looking for performance. In 1975, Ford presented the RS 2000 with an almost revolutionary polyurethane front end. Soon there were long delivery times as proof that the classic layout - engine at the front, drive at the rear - was the right one. But the VW Golf GTI was already waiting in the wings.
