As the German magazine "Spiegel" reports , the Italian police discovered the plan for the theft of Enzo Ferrari's mortal remains purely by chance during a raid for drug and weapons trafficking.
The detailed plan envisaged how the coffin was to be stolen, hidden and the family contacted.
However, a contingent of around 300 police officers prevented the exhumation and the theft. The criminal gang wanted to blackmail the family for ransom. More than 30 suspects were arrested.
Enzo Ferrari died in 1988 at the age of 90 and was buried in a cemetery in Modena. The coffin of the "Commendatore" stands there in his crypt, protected by a metal lattice door and a marble slab. Let him rest in peace!
