From the Geneva Motor Show directly to the Swiss Museum of Transport - Monteverdi at his destination
03/22/2017
Shortly after their "second presentation" at the Geneva Motor Show , the six Monteverdi went straight to the museum. However, their journey did not take them back to where they came from, namely Binningen in the canton of Basel, but to their new home in Lucerne, the Swiss Museum of Transport.
The road traffic hall is currently being redesigned. The eye-catching façade, decorated with 344 traffic signs, remains untouched, but there is a lot going on inside. An intermediate floor creates plenty of space for the future permanent exhibition of Monteverdi luxury and sports cars.
Peter Monteverdi, the founder of the automobile manufacturer of the same name, was born in Binningen on June 7, 1934 and died on July 4, 1998. He was known as a racing driver and car manufacturer. In 1956, after the death of his father Rosolino, he took over the Binningen-based company at the age of 22 and developed it into an agency for luxury vehicles and the production of specially designed racing cars.
From 1967 onwards, the company produced its own road sports cars and luxury vehicles under the Monteverdi name. His high-performance sports cars repeatedly provided the basis for "quartet cards" with values that could win almost any game.
In the mid-1990s, the Monteverdi Car Museum was established in the former production halls, where all the vehicles designed and constructed by Peter Monteverdi could be viewed.
A special exhibition at this year's Geneva Motor Show honored the brand with its own stand.
Many vehicles from the Monteverdi collection now have a new home at the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne. Even Globi, the Swiss comic strip hero, enjoys it!
The renovated road traffic hall will be officially opened on April 12 and will be open to all visitors to the Museum of Transport the following day.
