50 years later - Toyota then and now

The extent to which automotive design and technology have developed can be seen very clearly by comparing two vehicles from Toyota's history .
In 1966, the Japanese car company was one of the few models to present the Corolla, which produced around 60 hp from a displacement of 1.1 liters. 50 years later, the C-HR, certainly a niche vehicle, is new on the market, a "subcompact crossover SUV", one of over a dozen models.
While the Corolla had 12-inch wheels, the C-HR now has 18-inch wheels and 50-inch low profile tires instead of 80-inch tires.
The rear lights (see above) were once simple and functional, today they are fully designed.
The lettering has also changed.
Instead of beautiful squiggles and a feminine-sounding type designation, there are now technocratic letters.
Even the trademark has undergone a fundamental change.
In 1966 there was still a simple lettering on the rear, today it is a curved logo that also stands out in terms of color.
Does all this make the modern car better? In some respects, the progress is certainly enormous, but its ancestor is much easier to park thanks to its clear layout and compact size (Corolla 148.5 m wide, C-HR 1.795 m wide) and you can drive it without any instructions. The "old one" also has more space inside.
