Memories of my Turbo
12/28/2016
I immediately feel at home again in the Porsche Turbo, as I was able to enjoy such a car in private ownership for several years. Purchased for exactly CHF 60,000 and sold after years of enjoyment for CHF 45,000, I now deeply regret this trade.
Not because the car has far exceeded its purchase price at the time, but much more because of the car. The main reason for giving the Porsche away at that time was neither an addition to the family, nor age-related, nor due to illness; no, the reason was the ever-tightening road traffic laws. I realized that I would face a prison sentence if I continued to drive this fantastic car. A vehicle of this category with 300 hp and a top speed of 260 km/h is only really fun if it can be used in this way.
Back then, the Grimsel Pass was still considered the green hell of Switzerland. How often did we let the vehicles run free, only to enjoy a naturally alcohol-free but tasty dinner with friends in the "Baschi" (a well-known restaurant) in the Upper Valais shortly afterwards. I enjoyed the last free years with the 911, when checks on mountain passes were as rare as discovering a mother bear with her cubs in Switzerland.
You can't turn back time and to be honest: I couldn't afford a "turbo" today and anything other than an air-cooled car would be out of the question anyway!
We recently published a report on the Porsche Turbo .
