Last chance to visit the Monteverdi Museum
12/03/2016
The Monteverdi Museum in Binningen is almost part of the inventory. It has been the center of the Monteverdi world since the mid-nineties. 70 cars on around 4000 square meters, the largest collection in the world.
Starting with the Monteverdi Special from the early fifties, through the MBM period with monoposti and sports cars, to the golden era of the elegant Gran Turismo coupés and convertibles of the late sixties and early seventies, i.e. the 375 S and L and what they were all called, all types can be seen in Binningen. Of course, there is also the Hai, or to be more precise, three quarters of the entire production of the Hai, the mid-engined sports car that was always one of the super trumps in the car quartet. On the three floors of the museum, you can of course also see the Monteverdi off-road vehicles and the limousines of the seventies and eighties, the vehicles that were built on third-party chassis.
The special thing about the museum, however, is that it is located in the former production rooms and that you can also see the utensils used at the time, e.g. the drawing board or the wooden mold of the Monteverdi Hai.
But soon the museum will be history and some of the vehicles will move to the Museum of Transport in Lucerne (see News). This will certainly be interesting, but the ambience of the old factory environment will of course be a thing of the past.
If you want to see it again (or for the first and last time), you should make your way to Binningen near Basel (Oberwilerstrasse 20) today, Saturday, December 3, 2016, because today and only today the museum doors will be open to the public once again. There is unlikely to be another opportunity, especially as admission is free.
Information about the museum can be found on the website.
